Tasting:

Note: Last Spring the Undercurrent Restaurant presented a Duckhorn Vineyards virtual wine dinner that included three wines and a three course dinner. The dinner was one of the best wine pairing events we have ever had. Although the menu didn’t look impressive, every item was unique and could only be described as a work of culinary art. The chef really hit it our of the park with this dinner!!! Following is our review of the Duckhorn Vineyards wine served with the first course.

Chilled before drinking. Pale oat straw color. VERY FUNKY and fresh melon aromas. Smooth, very slightly creamy and unpretentious mouthfeel, solid medium body and an 80-grit texture. Tart flavor just like it smells. Medium acidity and a long citrusy and lemon grass tasting finish. Not what we expected, but it was OK paired with the grilled apple and grapefruit dressing and not as good sipping without food. We couldn’t get excited about this wine and it was not up to the quality of the food. We called it a “Not Bad” California Sauvignon Blanc.
