Tasting:

Opened 90-minutes before drinking. Clear, ruby color with a dusty purple cast and the same color rim. Strong earthy cherry, a lesser amount of current and licorice aromas with lots of fresh soft wood shavings in the background. Smooth entry, spicy, exciting, dry, medium-light body and a 150-grit texture. Robust fruit flavors, lots of bright acidity, abundant leathery tannins that hold their grip through a long mouth-puckering finish that ended bitter with hints of tar. Potent and vivacious red wine that was perfect with the strong venison taste. Big and powerful, a little rustic and even gamy, but in the end it was a wine you won’t quickly forget and after the last sip you’ll wish there was one more pour. You can bet we will have more Rainoldi Prugnolo with future venison dinners. Excellent Italian Nebbiolo that was a great value.
