Tasting:

Opened and decanted 90-minutes before drinking. Clear, pale ruby color with a light purple rim. Quite aromatic with damp earth, ripe cherry, licorice and whiffs of rose floral aromas. Silky smooth entry, dry, concentrated, uplifting and surprising mouthfeel, medium body and a 100-grit texture. Very dusty cherry, cranberry, licorice and spicy flavors. Delicious well-constrained bright acidity, persistent, but very well integrated tannins and a long bitter and tar tasting finish. WOW, what a surprise…Nebbiolo from the U.S Piedmont Region that’s filled with characteristics of the “real thing” from the Italian Piedmont Region!!! This had a soft refined character in mid-palate, but still retained the rich tannins and crisp acidity of Barolo and Barbaresco Nebbiolo. The Barboursville Vineyards Nebbiolo is both rich and powerful, but has an aged elegance that you only expect to find in much older Nebbiolo. We loved it and at this price point called it an extraordinary value!!! We both commented that we would like to blind taste this wine with Italian Nebbiolo that’s comparably priced.
