Tasting:

Opened and decanted one hour before drinking. Clear, light ruby color with a pale red/orange rim. Very light aromas of cherry, wet wood and ephemeral hints of strawberry and roses. Smooth entry yet very rustic and bramble-like mouthfeel, medium body and a 150-grit texture. Robust cherry and secondary tar, tart cranberry, strong tea and peppery flavors. Lots of bright acidity, well integrated tannins and a long mouth filling and significantly spicy cherry flavored finish that ended with a little grittiness in the tannins. WOW, WOW, WOW this wine exploded just before mid-palate…it was spicy, alive and mouth puckering. Because it had such light aromas the impact of the vibrant rich flavors and mouthfeel was unexpected. It was more approachable on the last pour so we will decant it longer if we have a second bottle. With all that said…WE LOVED IT and called it a Nebbiolo with character. We also thought it was one of the best pairings we’ve had with our venison meatloaf and Madeira sauce!!!
