Tasting:

Chilled before drinking. Clear wheat straw color. Strong citrus, ripe honeydew melon, apple, just picked snap peas and tiny hints of petroleum aromas. Very fresh, slightly waxy, dry and dusty mouthfeel, light body and a 150-grit texture. Powerful flavors of lemon, quinine water, dusty mineral, cooked Kieffer pears and green apples. Lots of crisp acidity and a long fruit and bitter finish. WOW, yet another Gruner Veltliner and it’s quite different from Waldschütz Handwerk Gruner Veltliner 2018 and Weingut Barbara Ohlzelt Gruner Leader 2019. This one had more acidity, intensity and diverse flavors and it was dryer. In the end we liked it very much, but it fills a different niche than the other two Grüner in 1 liter bottles. When the wine needs to be off dry this is not the one; however, this is clearly the most versatile of the three and the one we would chose again and again. We called it “The Best” of the 1 Liter Grüner Veltliner we tasted this year and it’s easily one of the top wines in our Quality Wine at a Bargain Price category.
