Tasting:

NOTE: We have had an earlier vintage of this wine before, (see: Comparison Tasting: Vallana Campi Raudii 2012, Vallana Spanna 2012 and Vallana Gattinara 2006, but after having it alone thought it was really a special wine that was priced way below its quality.

Opened and decanted one hour before drinking. Clear ruby color with a light purple rim. Strong fragrant rose floral, cherry and tar aromas. Very smooth entry, slightly bitter, dry, and intense mouthfeel, light body and a 150-grit texture. Gobs of cherry, tar and licorice flavors. Nice bright acidity, wonderful firm tannins and a long cherry and grippy tannin filled finish. This wine gives the distinctive scent of tar and roses a whole new meaning!!! EVERY SIP was dominated by tar and roses aromas. It was complex, filled with tension and in the end quite elegant…what more would you want? All this and it comes at a spectacular price. This is possibly the best value Nebbiolo we have ever found in this price range!!!
