Tasting:

He said: Chilled before drinking. Clear, very light wheat straw color. Wispy vanilla and oak aromas with faint hints of floral. On the mouth it was quite smooth with lots of acidity; rather intense ripe melon, pineapple and juicy California grapefruit taste that slides right into a long finish that’s tart and loaded with dusty mineral. Just so-so with the dinner, but better sipping after the meal. So, would I buy it again…I’m not excited about it and after dinner sipping the wine alone the strong California grapefruit taste became overpowering for my palate…it was almost to the point of being sour. At $30. I expect a Chardonnay to wow me, and this one clearly didn’t. For me it was disappointing Chardonnay at this price.

She said: Light golden yellow, clear, sparse but well moving legs. I have to say up front that the pairing was not good. Ray wanted a Riesling but I protested so he chose this and I feel he was correct about the Riesling. I put that information up front because I did not like the wine until I had finished my dinner and the cinnamon flavor left my palate. Regardless of the dinner, this wine lacked any significant aroma which at this price I expect in a wine. The flavor was mild with hints of vanilla and grapefruit, the mouth feel was substantive, smooth, dry, and acidic. The finish was long and changed as it proceeded with minerals emerging and ultimately dominating. As I stated before, I did not like it with the dinner but warmed to it when sipping afterward. Overall it was an OK Chardonnay but not up to the standards of similar priced French Chardonnays.
