Gary Farrell Russian River Valley Chardonnay 2015

Synopsis, Our Opinion: We savored the fruitiness, but could only give it one thumb up.

Producer/Winery: Gary Farrell; Healdsburg, California.

Grape Variety: Chardonnay.

Geographic Appellation,, Region, Country: Russian River Valley; Sonoma County, California.

Vintage: 2015

Price: $32.95

Purchased From: Woodland Hills Wine Company; Woodland Hills, California.

Paired With: Moroccan chicken.

Tasting:

Chilled before drinking. Clear, wheat straw color. Faint honeysuckle aromas. Tart mouthfeel, rich 100-grit texture and a medium body. Bountiful juicy fruit including lemon, ripe melon, apple, peach and vanilla flavors, Slightly crisp acidity and a long very bitter finish that was full of toastiness. The wine went well with the lemon in the chicken, but was less refreshing and lost much of its complexity when sipping after the dinner. A flavorful California Chardonnay, but at $32 it was a little disappointing. We’ve recently been drinking several Central Coast California Chardonnays in this price range and they were all head and shoulders above this one. We savored the fruitiness, but could only give it one thumb up.
