Tasting:
-
Opened and decanted one hour before drinking. Clear, pale ruby/purple color with a lighter brownish ruby color rim. Fruity aromas of cherry, blackberry, sweet tobacco and hints of cinnamon in almost every whiff. A WOW, bitter, dusty, rich and slightly spicy mouthfeel, medium to full body and a 100-grit texture. HUGE ripe flavors of cherry, blackberry, boysenberry and spicy pepper. Lots of bright acidity, well integrated tannins that we’re overwhelmed by the fruit taste and a bitter, mouth filling, long finish. This Zinfandel had a strong bouquet, powerful tastes and a dramatic finish, but what really stood out was how light and refreshing it was with every sip. It was FANTASTIC paired with the Mexican dinner, but maybe a little to fruity sipping without food. If we can get another bottle we’ll drink the whole thing with the dinner…an love it!!! This is a wine we would buy again in a flash. It was not as BIG and BOLD as we expected, but its lighter weight, juicy and spicy fruitiness, abundant acidity and less prominent tannins really made it special. Quite a noteworthy and distinct Zinfandel.
