Opened one hour before drinking. Just at the edge of being clear, dark ruby color with a light purple/red rim. Strong blackberry, wet wood and tobacco aromas. Bold, powerful, full body and a 200-grit texture. Intense fruity flavors of ripe blackberry, plum, elderberry and dark bitter chocolate with intermittent tastes of clove. Fresh acidity, firm well integrated tannins and an explosive bitter fruity finish. WOW, WOW a Shiraz that gives a whole new meaning to the term BIG and POWERFUL wine. The bold flavors we’re a perfect neutralizer for the salt in the stir fry soy sauce and in spite of the 16% alcohol, it was not obvious and was very well integrated. Clearly not California sweet and clearly not from the Rhone Valley, but there was lots of BRIGHT sun on these Australian grapes and it’s POTENT fruit and IMPETUOUS taste really identifies its origin…there is nothing else quite like it!!! We first had this Mollydooker at a wine dinner with Oxtail ravioli, braised cabbage, cave aged cheddar with a Shiraz reduction and the food and wine were excellent together. However, the pairing with our venison stir fry was STELLAR and if your into big and bold, it’s pretty good with out food too. Clearly not your “every-day” red wine, but in the big picture of live experiences it definitely has its place. We called it a vibrant Australian Shiraz the was a fantastic bargain.
