Prolog: Not long ago we had an Undercurrent Restaurant Wagner Family Virtual Wine Dinner. The three course dinner cost $150 that included dinner for two and three bottles of Wagner wines. The food came with detailed heating and plating instructions and was simply OUTSTANDING. The following is a review of the wine served with the second course.
Opened 90-minutes before drinking. Opaque inky dark purple with a slightly lighter rim. Light fruity aromas. Somewhat smooth with a sweet mouthfeel, medium body and a 60-grit texture. Very, Very ripe raspberry fruit and cinnamon flavors with a spicy mouth gripping taste. Light to medium acidity, soft tannins and a medium length fruity sweet finish that ends with a medicinal aftertaste. Of the three wines served with this FANTASTIC dinner this was the only one that was disappointing. It was simply way to sweet for our palates and we would be guessing if we said we could identify the Pinto Noir grape. We called it a deluding Pinot Noir. Many people like Meiomi Pinot Noir, the very successful Pinot noir that Joe Wagner developed, If your one of those wine drinkers you’ll probably like this Sea Sun brand California Pinot Noir too!!!
