Tasting:

Note: We had the 2009 vintage of this wine (see: Matteo Correggia Roero 2009) and did not recommend it. However, we have a completely different opinion of the 2017 vintage and are doing a second review. Although there were some similar characteristics, we think the 2017 vintage is markedly improved and is a Nebbiolo that should not be overlooked.

Opened and decanted for 90-minutes before drinking. Clear, pale ruby color with a slightly lighter rim. Not strong, but very nice aromas of new leather, cherry, raspberry, conifer saw dust and a little potpourri. Slightly scratchy, meaty and enthusiastic mouthfeel, medium body and a 80-grit texture. Very rich cherry and raspberry fruit flavors mixed with sweet tobacco in the background. Not overpowering yet nice fresh acidity, gravelly tannins that really get grippy and become dominant in the medium length cherry finish. WOW a slightly rustic young Nebbiolo that’s vibrant, captivating and delicious. The combination of fleshy fruit and vivacious grippy tannins is like a medley made in heaven!!! We called it an exhilarating week-night Nebbiolo that’s a great value.
