Tasting:

He said:n Very, very dark ruby red color (so dark it’s almost opaque…but isn’t). Intense ripe cherry, current and a tiny bit of moist leather in the bouquet. On the palate it’s bursting with succulent fruit and a finish that’s dry, flavorful, long and scrumptious. WOW…this was really OUTSTANDING wine…and simply a phenomenal value at $20!!!

We have had this wine in the cellar for quite a few months and when I opened it we had no idea how good it was going to be. Some time ago I went on a buying spree at Total Wine and purchased several mixed cases of wines that were priced in the low $20 range that had a Wine Spectator rating above 90. As it turns out this was one of the exceptional ones…it was number 35 in the Wine Spectator Top 100 wines of 2013. And the best part is we have another bottle socked away.

She said: Good is good is good. Redundant? Not really; good wine, good food, good pairing is a dynamite combination and this dinner was one of them. The blue cheese sauce needed a strong flavored wine and this one was up to the job with its powerful dark fruit aroma and taste. Dry, full bodied, and with robust tannins this wine was delicious from start to finish. One of the tests for me of a great wine is how quickly I drink it; I sip a great wine slowly over a long time and guess what? I was content to sip this wine long after the dinner was finished just because I wanted the experience to last all evening. This is a brilliant pairing. Yumm! Although not priced below our $15 bargain threshold, this is a great wine for the price and I would buy it again.
