Opened one hour before drinking. Clear, very dark ruby color with a lighter brown/red rim. Very fruity ripe cherry aroma dominating with plum and blackberry in the background. Lively, bold and quite spicy mouthfeel, medium to full body and a 80-grit texture. Wonderful dark cherry, plum, mulberry and current fruit with very strong peppery spice flavors. Medium edgy acidity, delicious and abundant fine grained tannins and a long gritty finish. A little different from traditional Italian red wines…heaver, rich deep fruit flavors, lots of tannin and a unique bitter finish. FANTASTIC paired with the strong flavored dinner, but equally good sipping without food after the dinner. We found it more like a heavy European wine than an Italian red, but we really liked it. We called it a versatile wine that’s an outstanding value.
