Elena Walch Castel Ringberg Alto Adige Pinto Grigio 2012 (2nd Tasting)

Recommendation: An OUTSTANDING Pinot Grigio that’s worth ferreting out

Paired With: The Armenian Sandwich (from the Jerusalem Market in Greensboro, North Carolina) Spiced, dried beef filet, sliced thin with provolone cheese melted on top; served with baba ghanouj and yogurt cucumber sauce, and Vicky’s lentil soup. And, for desert…Boorma (Shredded fillo wrapped around whole pistachios).

Tasting:

He said: Chilled to cool, not icy cold. Crystal clear, very light oat straw color. Aromas of carmel, floral, apple and melon. SILKY SMOOTH pear and apple taste that continues all the way through the medium-long finish that has hints of mineral. WOW, WOW, WOW…I’m jumping up and down…this is GREAT Pinot Grigio!!! Creamy, delicious, flavorful and PERFECT smooth crisp acidity. We’re into Pinot Grigio’s and this in a word is OUTSTANDING. I classify this in the category of an “all-time best” Pinot Grigio. For me this was a MEMORABLE wine (in bold caps) and an excellent pairing.

She said: With a wonderful flowery bouquet this was a superb wine from start to finish. The scents in the bouquet continued through the palate and were joined by the sensations of smoothness and full body. The wine was creamy yet not sweet and without a touch of harshness or bitterness. The finish was medium and prepared you for the next delicious sip. This is the wine I dream about when I think of sitting on the patio of my favorite hotel in Cannero Riviera overlooking Lake Maggiore. I highly recommend this wine and suggest that everyone that likes Pinot Grigio give it a try because it sets the standard.

Comments: We don’t usually post the same wine a second time unless it’s very different from the first tasting. However, this wine is so OUTSTANDING with a different pairing we’re posting it again!!! See Elena Walch Castel Ringberg Alto Adige Pinot Grigio for the first tasting review. Also note this made our list of the Best Wines of 2013.
