Terpin Jakot 2007

Recommendation: A very unique orange wine that’s a real show-stopper.

Winery/Producer: Franco Terpin; San Floriano del Collio, Italy.

Grape Variety: Friulano.

Geographic Region, Appellation: Friuli Venezia-Giulia, italy.

Vintage: 2007

Price: $32.40

Purchased From: The Caviste Wine Shop; Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Paired With: Kale and Romaine green salad with mushrooms, cubed sauteed venison and an oil and lemon dressing.

Tasting:

He said: Chilled before drinking. Cloudy, apricot color. Herbaceous with green apricot and citrus aromas. And, what else but citrus, apricot and damp earth taste that grows tart and ends with a very long wet rock and mineral finish. An unusual wine we first had at a Caviste wine dinner at Krankies Restaurant paired with sauerkraut soup. We liked it then and it paired well with our salad and drank well alone after the dinner. Lively wine with crisp acidity, a delicious tartness and food friendliness that really opens doors. Not inexpensive but a very unique orange wine that’s a real show-stopper.

She said: Apricot color clear to cloudy. Mild aroma introduced soft apricot flavors accompanied by medium body, smoothness and high acidity that made the wine a
great fit for the lemon dressing on the salad. The finish was long and continued the apricot flavor making a delightful dining experience. At $32.40 it is a bit pricey for what I consider a whimsical wine, but excellent and unique at this price
