Synopsis, Our Opinion: A passable off dry sparkling wine we wouldn’t recommend.

Geographic Appellation,, Region, Country: Bairrada, Portugal.

Vintage: 2013

Purchased From: Undercurrent Restaurant; Greensboro, North Carolina.

Paired With: Sipping.

Tasting:

Chilled before drinking. Clear, dark oat straw color. Yeasty, with apple and hints of lemon and floral aromas. Smooth and effervescent, off dry, light to medium body and a 200- grit texture. Ripe apple and a touch of honey flavors. Crisp acidity and a medium length honey tinged and tart finish. This was a very unpretentious sparkling wine and the tasting experience was so compressed it was difficult to untangle. At the wine dinner it was paired with a white fish and was a good enough combination that we bought a bottle. As a sipping wine it was a different experience and we called it a passable off dry sparkling wine we wouldn’t recommend.
