Tasting:

Note: We first had this Folie à Deux Cabernet Sauvignon as part of the Virtual Wine Dinner: Undercurrent Restaurant; Greensboro, North Carolina, then recorked it and paired BBQ pork with it at home the next night.

Opened and recorked for 24 hours before drinking. Clear, dark ruby color with the same color rim. Light cherry, blackbery and dried fig aromas. Bold, dusty, very spicy and a slightly sharp mouthfeel, medium to full body and an 80-grit texture. Powerful and concentrated cherry, blackberry and current fruit flavors mixed with an intermittent smoky taste. Medium acidity that was plentiful and well-balance, quite grippy young tannins and a long peppery and blackberry finish. Clearly a fruit-forward wine with its bold juicy ripe tastes. We were surprised how well it paired with the pork, both at the wine dinner and at home. It’s definitely much better than other California Cabernet Sauvignon at this price point. We were pleasantly surprised with the quality both times we tasted it and called it a good value California Cabernet Sauvignon in this price range.
