Tasting:

Served at room temperature. Opaque, inky dark ruby color with a tint of purple. Plumb, blueberry and cherry aromas with hints of woody caramel. Smooth, full-body mouth-feel and lots of spunky plumb flavors with hints of nuttiness that continued into a slightly tart ending that had an ample amount of supple tannins. Nicely balanced fortified wine with just enough acidity to give it an invigorating character. So easy drinking that each sip just became the prologue for the next sip. It was hand-and-glove with the cheese, but very pleasant sipping on its own. This wine was a Silver medal winner at the 2015 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition (in the Port Class) and we simply couldn’t resist a side-by-side tasting. We had a glass with cheese and liked it very much, so the next evening we blind tasted it with a Portuguese Medium-dry Tawny Port…and there were some big differences. The Tawny Port had the traditional bronze color while the Rhapsody was ruby/purple color. Both had a heavy, full-body mouth-feel, but the tastes were dramatically different. The Rhapsody was not nearly as sweet and was full of non-traditional flavors and tannins that gave it a delicious sipping quality. After we had both tasted each of the wines we concluded we liked the same one…and when the covers came off it was the Rhapsody we both liked best!!!
