Tasting:

He said: Opened one- hour before drinking. Clear, purple/ruby red color with a purple rim. Light plum, rocks coming out of the crusher and fresh cut cedar aromas. Medium body with a lush cherry and current taste and a long finish with smooth dusty tannins, a soft silky character and a slight upturn of bitterness at the very end. Very nice acidity that was in perfect balance with the fruit flavors and tannins. Although I wouldn’t describe this as a big, bold, California wine, it had hefty flavors and easily held its own with the strong taste of the grilled steak with blue cheese. Very delicious California Cabernet Sauvignon that’s perfect with steak and special occasions…it was VERY SPECIAL California Cabernet Sauvignon.

We had this side-by-side with Seavey Caravina Cabernet Sauvignon that was about half the price. Everyone knew one wine was about twice the price of the other and immediately identified the Stag’s Leap as the more expensive bottle. I do believe if the bottles had been covered there might have been some question about which was the more expensive wine…they were both OUTSTANDING Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.

She said: Dark purple-red, opaque, lots of irregular legs on the move. This started off subtlety with a mild bouquet of dark fruit with but morphed into a mouthful of fruitiness with a touch of earthiness. The mouth feel was dry and silky smooth with lots going on as the wine passed over the palate. The medium body was complemented by soft tannins that cautiously swelled and continued into the delicate finish. Great wine with the dinner.
