RED BLENDS
2001 Vintage - BLIND TASTED in March 2006 Opus One
|
Hervé Pennequin Since the 1997, the Petit Verdot is now part of the blend in Opus One. The Cabernet Sauvignon is averaging 87%, Merlot 6%, Malbec 3% and the Cabernet Franc 2%. The new French oak is used for 17 months in this vintage during which the very tiny harvest produced a wine with small and concentrated berries accepting the oak aging very favorably. The color is bright, intense red ruby with reddish / purple rims. The nose shows black fruits, very intense of black currant, plum and prune along with fresh mint aromas. At breathing, the wine develops aromas of spices, cloves with beautiful smokiness in the end. The palate is racy, elegant and silky tannins. The flavors of chocolate with cinnamon add in complexity as the wine evolves in the mouth. Very long finish.
Andreas Larsson Deep ruby color, the nose offers toasted oak, coffee, cocoa, cherries and tobacco. The palate is polished and elegant with silky tannins, nice fruit and a good freshness, long aftertaste. Nice and approachable.
