RED BLENDS
1997 Vintage - BLIND TASTED in March 2006 Opus One
|
Hervé Pennequin The 1997 year produced a large crop resulting of the previous hot, fertile year. Opus One however thinned their harvest to produce one of the lowest yielded vintage and aged their wine for 18 months in 100% new French oak. The wine shows a slight evolution in the color with brownish reflect in the rims surrounding a still dark intense red ruby color. The nose expresses rich earthy aromas with, rose leaves, forest floor notes and tobacco box. The fruits aromas are towards dried cherries with raspberry. The palate contains still lots of tannins with spices of cloves with roasted coffee beans. The presence in the mouth is long and the earthiness in the finish brings a firm touch that tends to indicate some years to come in aging.
Andreas Larsson Medium deep, slightly developed ruby red color, the nose is complex with an approaching maturity, nice tones of mocha, coffee, tobacco, spices and dried cherries. The palate is elegant with polished tannins, spices and dried cherries, nice and complex with a long aftertaste. Nice and complex.
