CABERNET SAUVIGNON
2002 Vintage - BLIND TASTED in March 2006 Vogt Vineyard - Howell Mountain
|
Hervé Pennequin This is the third vintage produced by Nickel & Nickel from this location from the top of Howell Mountain, above the clouds. This small 14 acres vineyard benefits of more sun exposition but the strict irrigation helps to hydrate the vines towards the end of summer when the heat is at the highest. The various soils demand different clones adapted to each one of them. With small berries, the wine get extracted color with purple rims. The woody aromas are very tender, the wine being aged in only 40% new French oak, the remaining being from 1 year old wood barrels. The wine expresses lots of meatiness with spices of cloves and some forest floor aromas. Fruits aromas are light but cherry, plum and blueberry are noticeable after breathing. In the mouth, the origin of the wine shows off, with pine and eucalyptus characters along with firm tannins, some earthiness appears in the long finish.
Andreas Larsson Very rich and expressive nose, flowery and fruity with dark blackberries, blacAÂkcurrants, spices, mineral and tobacco. The palate is rich with a good density and very marked tannins, rich dark fruit, fresh acidity and a long aftertaste. Big and balanced with a good complexity.
