CABERNET SAUVIGNON
2002 Vintage - BLIND TASTED in March 2006 Rock Cairn Vineyard - Oakville
|
Hervé Pennequin The name of Cairn comes from long ago when the Indians were traversing the hillsides and placing a rock on a pile as an offering for safe passage. Nickel & Nickel farms only 9 acres from this vineyard located North of Yountville and South of Oakville. The wine ages for 19 months in 50% new French oak and gives a dark rubis color with intense purple hues to the wine. The aromas of plum, cherry, prune are concentrated and very persistent, almost kirsch like. The mouth expresses ripe black fruits aromas of Morello cherry, with violet flower and licorice in the finish. The acidity brings a great balance and some elegance to the wine where the tannins, some how tights, supports a dense structure.
Andreas Larsson Medium deep ruby red color, the nose offers darker fruits, blackberries, cherries, plums and spices. The palate is very full and structured with marked tannins, and a good length. Nicely structured but without the finesse of Sullenger and Stelling.
