The wine & perfume experience continues… Following up on the article “The Wine and Perfume Experience ” in the Summer 2008 edition of TASTED, some 50 invited guests had the good fortune to take part in the world's first wine tasting & perfume smelling experience on May 21st on the Mouton Cadet terrace on top of the Palais des Festivals in Cannes.



While stars like Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt and Sharon Stone promoted their films a few levels lower down, on the top floor wine lovers dived into the world of scents and senses.The splendid terrace with its impressive view over the city, the harbour and the bay of Cannes was certainly the place to be that day.
 
 
Andreas Larsson, Best Sommelier of the World 2007, surprised wine and perfume specialists alike with a completely new approach to tasting which revealed the similarity between wine and perfume aromas. After their initial surprise, the guests showed great interest in this unusual subject.


Lively discussions ensued and happy pairings between Baron Philippe de Rothschild wines and the perfumes were found. Mouton Cadet, the official wine partner of the Cannes Film Festival, found some exceptional matches during the wine & perfume experience.


Chanel N° 5 revealed aromas comparable to those of Mouton Cadet White, Jean Paul Gautier's La Femme flirted with Le Rosé de Mouton Cadet and Vétiver, Guerlain's classic men’s fragrance, had a freshness reminiscent of Mouton Cadet Red. Bulgari's Rose Essentielle showed aromatic similarities with Mapu, a brand new Chilean Sauvignon Blanc
 
 
The most sensual women’s fragrance, Trésor de Lancôme, revealed the full aromatic range of a Mouton Cadet Réserve - Saint Emilion, while Déclarations, the new men’s fragrance from Cartier, was judged to be in perfect harmony with a Pays d’Oc Viognier.


Last but not least, some of the château wines joined in the game, revealing some astonishing aromatic characteristics.
Aile d’Argent 2004, a unique premium white wine from Baroness Philippine de Rothschild, was reminiscent of Ô de Lancôme, one of the perfumier's great classics.
 
 
 
Guerlain's Shalimar highlighted the roundness and delicacy of Château Clerc Milon 2001, while Délices de Cartier paired up perfectly with the elevated and complex aromas of Mouton Rothschild 2001.


As well as the wines and the perfumes, the new tasting glasses by Chef & Sommelier also gained a standing ovation.
